How to Decide
Twisted Metal: Head-On – Extra Twisted Edition is known for delivering classic arena‑style vehicular combat with extensive bonus content, and it’s primarily used by fans of vehicular combat. The alternatives split into a few clear camps: Twisted Metal: Small Brawl leans into miniature tabletop‑style battles with precise steering controls for tight arena maps; Twisted Metal provides cross‑platform availability on PS3 and PC along with its signature final‑boss showdown; Twisted Metal III distinguishes itself with a revamped physics engine and a unique Calypso wish mechanic.
When comparing these titles, the key factors that actually separate them are: 1) platform compatibility – the Head‑On edition runs only on PlayStation 2 hardware, while Twisted Metal reaches PS3 and PC and Twisted Metal III is limited to the original PlayStation; 2) amount of supplemental content – Head‑On adds movies, a documentary, soundtrack code and an art book, whereas the others focus mainly on core gameplay; 3) vehicle physics and handling – Twisted Metal III’s new physics engine changes handling feel compared to the classic feel of Head‑On and Small Brawl; and 4) unique gameplay mechanics – Small Brawl’s tabletop‑style precision steering, Twisted Metal’s final‑boss arena, and Twisted Metal III’s Calypso wish system each offer distinct experiences that may sway a fan’s choice.
