How to Decide
Sonic Mega Collection is a paid, one‑time compilation of classic Sonic titles aimed at retro gamers. The alternatives split into a few clear camps: Mega Man X Collection leans on modern save functionality for its classic PS2 titles; Mega Games 6 Vol. 3 is distinguished by its authentic PAL cartridge format for true plug‑and‑play on original Genesis hardware; Mega Man Anniversary Collection stands out with ten games plus two previously unreleased titles and extensive bonus multimedia content.
When weighing these options, focus on (1) platform and hardware compatibility – Sonic runs on modern consoles, Mega Man X Collection and Anniversary Collection are PS2‑only, while Mega Games 6 Vol. 3 requires a PAL Genesis; (2) multiplayer support – Sonic offers split‑screen couch co‑op, the others are single‑player only; (3) content breadth – Sonic includes ten Sonic games, Mega Man X Collection six X titles, Mega Games 6 Vol. 3 six Sega games, and Mega Man Anniversary Collection ten Mega Man games with two exclusives; (4) modern conveniences such as save features – only Mega Man X Collection adds save capability; and (5) price point differences reflected in their MSRPs.
