How to Decide
Side Pocket 3 is a Japan‑exclusive 3D pool simulation starring professional player Kyoko Sone, primarily enjoyed by billiards fans and retro game collectors. The alternatives split into a few clear camps: Virtual Pool 3 leans on robust online multiplayer for up to eight players; World Championship Pool 2004 adds LAN‑based multiplayer and split‑screen support; Pool Edge is optimized for low‑end PCs with minimal system requirements; Championship Pool distinguishes itself with a full BCA tournament progression from regional to world champion; Side Pocket (the original 1986 arcade version) offers arcade‑style physics and retro pixel‑art graphics.
When weighing substitutes for Side Pocket 3, focus on (1) platform coverage – Side Pocket 3 is a PlayStation/Sega Saturn title while the alternatives range from PC‑only to multi‑platform releases; (2) multiplayer modality – options vary between online matchmaking, LAN, split‑screen, or local couch play; (3) physics style – some prioritize realistic ball dynamics while others favor arcade‑balanced physics; (4) depth of competitive structure – only Championship Pool provides a structured tournament ladder, whereas others offer limited or no career modes; and (5) hardware demands – titles like Pool Edge target older PCs, contrasting with the higher‑spec expectations of modern consoles.
