How to Decide
Operation Europe: Path to Victory 1939-45 is known for letting strategy enthusiasts command WWII armies across Europe and North Africa on PC, preserving the original 1991 experience. The alternatives split into a few clear camps: Norm Koger's: The Operational Art of War vol. 1 – 1939‑1955 leans into deep logistical and supply‑line management for hardcore tacticians; Company of Heroes: Tales of Valor emphasizes real‑time tactical combat with cooperative missions and a modern resource‑capture system.
When weighing substitutes, focus on (1) the pricing model – both alternatives and the target are one‑time purchases, so total cost is comparable; (2) the depth of logistical simulation – Norm Koger’s offers extensive supply, fuel and ammunition mechanics, whereas Operation Europe provides only basic logistics; (3) gameplay tempo and style – the target and Norm Koger’s are turn‑based, while Company of Heroes delivers real‑time RTS action; (4) scenario creation tools – all three include editors, but the target’s is older, Norm Koger’s is extensive for custom operational battles, and Company of Heroes adds mod support via the Relic editor; and (5) multiplayer experience – Operation Europe’s hot‑seat two‑player mode contrasts with Norm Koger’s broader multiplayer options and Company of Heroes’ co‑op and competitive maps.
